Energy Assets is one of the UK's leading independent metering and utility services providers, operating across smart metering, energy data services, and network operations. Clever Grapes joined the MHHS transformation programme in May 2023, scaling from 2 to 9 engineers while contributing across selected data processing, integration, observability, and testing capabilities.
The Challenge
Energy Assets needed engineering support across MHHS-related data processing capabilities, including ingestion from multiple sources, validation and aggregation of half-hourly readings, complex MPAN and meter relationships, missing-data estimation, secure DIP integration, and operational traceability across distributed services.

The Solution
Clever Grapes engineers contributed to the design, implementation, testing, performance validation, and scalability of MHHS-related platform components, working across distributed processing, secure integration, observability, and test tooling inside the Energy Assets programme.
Supported half-hourly consumption aggregation, validation workflows, message orchestration, retries, retrospective corrections, and missing-data estimation for settlement-ready processing.
Helped shape a retrieval layer that can operate as a shared service across multiple organisations and metering ecosystems, supporting API-based integrations and onboarding of additional external consumers.
Contributed to secure Data Integration Platform communication using certificate-based authentication and mTLS patterns.
Helped improve operational visibility with tracing, logs, metrics, dashboards, and alerting across distributed services.
Supported tooling for reusable request collections, workflow validation, integration testing, and audit history.
The first production-ready version was delivered, with continued support for rollout, fixes, feature expansion, and future regulatory change.
The platform supports high-frequency half-hourly consumption processing across large metering datasets, with architecture shaped around long-term scaling ambitions of up to approximately 500,000 meters.
Telemetry, tracing, dashboards, and alerting improved troubleshooting, incident analysis, and performance optimization.
